How to: Advertise an Event

Options available:

CS Society Bulletin Board

This is the bulletin board located on level 1 of the CS building, at the bottom of the big staircase. It is set aside for CS Society only, so this should be a no-brainer for advertising events.

CS Society Whiteboard

This is a whiteboard located in the CS building that we can set up in the lobby. *update this content for accuracy*

CS Building BigBoard Screen

We currently have permission from the Dean's Administrator, Anne Publicover, to use the large screen at the entrance of the CS building (i.e., "BigBoard") to promote CS Society events. Contact her for information.

CS Building LittleBoard Screens

These are the small screens run by CS Society that are currently out of commission. Possibly to be replaced in the future.

DSU TigerEvents System

TigerEvents is the DSU's official online event system. It's located at my.dsu.ca/events

DSU VOLT Screens

These are large flat-panel screens located across campus. They are currently maintained by the Communications Coordinator of the DSU. As of Winter 2009, this is Meghann Bryans, and the required format for the ad is a 1024x768 JPEG image named in the format "CSSMar02.jpeg" (March 2nd being the expiration date on the ad). Find the current Communications Coordinator here.

Locked DSU Bulletin Boards

This is a bulletin board in the SUB that's available. Contact the VP Internal of the DSU about advertising here.

Dal Sticky Notes

This is an email list that includes almost all Dal students. Submit an event advertisement here.

Putting up posters

There are a million different bulletin boards on campus, from the SUB to the Killam Library. Use them! Many students find out about events by looking at posters on bulletin boards.

Putting up posters

There is currently a GeekBeer Facebook group, which can be used to advertise. We recommend creating Facebook events for each event, and inviting as many people as possible. Also, CS Society may want pay for some Facebook ads to promote events in the future. These can be marketed directly to Dal students based on a given criteria(male/female, university major, interests etc.).
